This immersive performance is a dinner event where all attendees are invited into the farce: what would it be like if funerals were treated with the same paparazzi frenzy as other rites of passage?

Death Warmed Up sits within this world; a TV show with a focus on the food that is being served at celebrity funerals. This performed episode is about the funeral of Georgia Banks, C-List reality TV star of Remains To Be Seen fame.

For over 5 years, artist Georgia Banks has rigorously delved into the world of Reality TV and AI—exploring ideas of death, fame and legacy—to fearlessly provoke viewers into critically engaging with the ineffable ways these mediums shape and influence our identities, relationships and the zeitgeist of our nation.

In her first theatrical live work, Death Warmed Up, Banks extrapolates on her research to stage an immersive dinner theatre event, which places audiences on the set of a fictitious, live-taped reality television show. Death Warmed Up imagines a world where amateur chefs vie for the opportunity to cater the funerals of public figures. Audiences are invited to join Banks for dinner and a show, where they will cross the threshold into the world of Reality TV.

Death Warmed Up premieres alongside Banks’ major survey exhibition Villain Edit at Platform Arts, Geelong, offering regional audiences the opportunity to see these remarkable works together for the first time. This rigorous and cohesive exploration of the myriad ways these mediums shape culture has transpired into a new live performance experience.

Villain Edit is accompanied by an eponymous publication, edited by Madé Spencer-Castle and featuring contributions by Daniel Mudie Cunningham, Ari Tampubolon, Diego Ramirez and Anador Walsh.

  • Georgia Banks makes performance art even when you think she doesn't. Her most interesting work won’t happen until after she's dead - she hopes it’s good but will never know. Banks has been banned from Tinder, sued by the estate of Hannah Wilke, and awarded Miss Social Impact in a national beauty pageant. She would like to go viral, break a Guinness World Record, and be in an actual episode of Black Mirror instead of making her own. Georgia's never had a filling nor broken a bone (although she has been crucified) and once was convinced she'd accidentally sliced away a part of her labia during a performance (she hadn’t).
