Platform LAB is our flagship artist development program aimed at increasing industry expertise and live presentation outcomes for artists working across contemporary practice.
Platform LAB champions the creative development process of artists across diverse disciplines and at all stages of career. This tailored residency program supports participating artists to experiment with new methodologies, undertake research, grow their professional practice and contribute to contemporary dialogues. Comprising three streams that offer digital and onsite residencies, LAB provides time, money, space, tailored mentorship, group intensives and presentation opportunities, as well as in-house technical, producing, and marketing support.
In 2022, Platform LAB will expand to support a larger cohort of artists through the investment of over $100,000 in financial and in-kind support. Platform Arts recognises the need for accessible contemporary arts development opportunities in our region, and we welcome applications from artists of all ages and stages of practice.
Three core streams have been developed: Digital Residency; Studio Artists; and Creative Development, providing each participating artist or collective with:
$5000
Participation in Professional Development program
Participation in two in-person LAB residency intensives
Mentorships and/or financial support to engage your own creative collaborators
Facilitated cultural and community-led programs
In addition to the above, each stream provides further support to centre distinct creative goals.
Artists are invited to apply for one or more streams through the one application form. Applications will be assessed by Platform Arts’ staff and external assessors from the LAB Curatorium.
Before you apply, please download the LAB Application Guidelines for the full list of criteria and eligibility.
Platform LAB is made possible with the support of the Australian Government through the Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (RISE) Fund.
