Pink Ember Studio presents, Thas Mento Illness Luv, a group show exploring their relationship to memes, meme culture and what memes mean to them.

Together the artists showcase a body of work in various mediums that reflects on their experiences working in a non-for-profit, queer focused studio and the community it has built.

Memes are short-hand for feelings, functioning much like colour, texture and form in a work of art. We use memes to communicate in a deeply coded, specific, vernacular language. Blending text and image, recycling recognisable symbols. The artists in this show express their unique relationship to memes: finding yourself in other people’s messed up jokes, making light of suffering through shared culture, being in on the joke, being seen and witnessed.

For sales and enquiries, please contact curator@platformarts.org.au.

  • Pink Ember Studios is a queer-run co-operative, creating spaces for artists to make work and be part of a community.

    Artists represented:

Kathy Sarpi, Aaron Billings, Frances Cannon, Aoife Billings, Lydia Cross, Camilla Eustance, Jesse Bisset, Romey Porcu, Simone Alesich and Leili.
