A comedy about the end of the world! Two desperate people wait at a crossroad for something to save them from the approaching apocalypse. The culturally diverse artists of Geelong’s North Youth Theatre present their own unique take on the climate emergency in a strange and beautiful story that takes you from Amazonia to the Horn of Africa and back home.

Followed by a rap performance from BARAKA - a hip hop and R&B hype artist - creating music and a new sound.

Ascension is a deep dive into the transcendental nature of large scale artworks both in its creation for the artist and in its viewing by the audience. Taking inspiration from Rothko’s Chapel located in the Tate Modern and Helen Frankenthaler in her studio photographed by Gordon Parks in 1956 as well as auditory inspiration from John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme released in 1965. Ascension is an invitation into contemplative practice through art and Christian mysticism in in a contemporary context beyond the walls of organised religion and obvious Christian symbolism.

Corey W. Notaristefano is a self-taught visual artist working out of Geelong, Australia. While predominantly a photographer, Corey has been painting since high school and has shown pieces in a number of group shows since graduating. Corey draws inspiration from eclectic interests in jazz, nature, photography abstract expressionism, colour field and, the human figure as well as his own spiritual practice. Corey’s previous show Amniotic at Analogue Academy in 2017 was a tremendous success which saw the production of 8 large prints and a book of poetry and further images not displayed on the night.
