""Should we be defined by geography? Who cares?” - Dr Rebecca Coates, Shepparton Art Museum

First presented in March 2020 by Platform Arts and Deakin University, Energetical is a program of symposia, exhibitions and workshops focusing on the value, labour, experience and intergenerational knowledge of female-identifying artists and arts workers living or working in regional Victoria.

Energetical was the first event of its kind in Victoria, where leaders from regional arts organisations provided guidance and insight into closing the gap on the remuneration, opportunities and economic security of female practitioners. Discussions included topics around diverse and inclusive programming; legacy art projects; navigating contemporary arts practice; and connecting across the geographical divide between practitioners, organisations and audiences in regional areas.

Platform is thrilled to partner with Deakin University to facilitate a major event for arts practitioners and leaders from across Victoria to share knowledge, discuss, debate, network and forge connections.

Since the 2020 symposium, research and conversations sparked by Energetical have been continued through panel discussions with Artlands (2022) and MPavilion (2021).

Energetical is co-curated by Ilana Russell and Amber Smith with Dr. Anne Wilson.
