GERARD POL
GERARD POL
“My name is Gerard [Noongar/Karajarri]. I’m an educator in a range of different capacities (which is how I got into doing the work I’m doing now). I think more importantly to that though, is me seeing myself as an artist, as well, and bringing that into everything I do. I see the world in such a unique way (I think) and I love sharing that with others- artistically and creatively, so we can learn in deep and meaningful ways. I’m passionate about people becoming themselves- leaning into who they’re born to be. Seeing people grow into these wonderful beings, is such a beautiful thing to be a part of. I’m from Country WA- love the bush, love my family (including my friends), and love my culture. These are the most important things to me. The outdoors, active lifestyles and doing- I’m always doing something! As an artist and educator, I focus on the intersectionality of being Queer and First Nations and what that looks like/what it means for people like me, to exist in Australian society. ‘Decolonising people and place’ is usually the subject area I’m tinkering around in. It’s been great to be part of the Yookapa mob, coming together each week, and I look forward to the work we’ll do together as we continue.”
