MINNA LEUNIG
MINNA LEUNIG
Minna Leunig is a Geelong-based artist living and working on the traditional lands of the Wadawurrung people.
Painting with acrylic on canvas, Minna creates playful images inspired by the unique beauty and feeling across a vast array of native Australian landscapes - all the way from the dry sclerophyll forests of the Strathbogie Ranges, to the tangled mangroves and thick rainforests of Cape York.
Her paintings reflect an appreciation for the natural world, as well as an interest in issues relating to environmental conservation; during a time where fragile ecosystems need our care and protection the most. As well as having exhibited at galleries such as Backwoods, aMBUSH, Outré, Juddy Roller, VS, Montsalvat, Neon Parlour and Lamington Drive, Minna has an interest in bringing art out of gallery spaces and into the public realm through large scale murals, working by the philosophy that art should be an integral part of everyday life, and accessible to all.
During her studio residency as part of LAB, Minna will explore pattern, texture, form, large scale immersive works and sculpture, as well as the idea of 'quiet activism' through art. How may we touch people through imagery, create awareness and inspire change? Minna hopes to develop and strengthen her ideas surrounding this and move towards a practice that feels more impactful.
