BLINK DANCE THEATRE

BLINK DANCE THEATRE

Blink Dance Theatre is an independent, project-based company located in Geelong, creating live performance and screen works, often in site specific spaces. The company values authentic, immersive, participatory, and contemporary movement and theatre practices. BLINK was established in 2013 by a small team of multidisciplinary artists and is led by founding Artistic Director, Lyndel Quick and Creative Producers - Jessica Lesosky and Elise Wilkinson. Together, they create performance projects with community and professional artists.

Through LAB, they will be developing the work Small Wonders - an immersive sound, text and movement project. A performance experience where small actions are revered and wonder becomes the bridge between the ordinary and extraordinary. The new work will be informed by their ongoing research into wonder, storytelling, embodiment and the power of the miniature. It will explore the complex interplay between private and public meaning giving practices in contemporary culture, and gently invite participants to find wonder in the smallest of moments.

  • LYNDEL QUICK is a theatre maker, director, and dance educator with a background in collaborative, devised work. Her artistic practice is driven by a humanistic approach to movement – does the body contain universal truth? Where is the poetry in the human experience? With an interest in personal and cultural transformation, Lyndel’s work is deeply connected to community building, embodied mythology, story and ritual. For 18 years, Lyndel has facilitated community workshops and events at her own studio, The Loft, a thriving dance hub located in Geelong, where she regularly teaches dance and yoga.

JESSICA LESOSKY is a Canadian-born dancer, performer and dance/movement therapist. She trained with the National Ballet of Canada and then moved into contemporary dance working with Toronto Dance Theatre. Jessica moved to Australia in 1999 and performed in works by various choreographers at the VCA, The Melbourne Fringe and various independent dance/theatre companies. Jessica has a graduate Diploma from RMIT in Visual and Performing Arts (Dance Movement Therapy) and is a founding member of Blink Dance Theatre. In the last 6 years, she has worked as both performer and producer for the company across several new works and also with other local companies as both performer and guest workshop facilitator.

ELISE WILKINSON has worked as an actor for theatre and film for over twenty years. She has a Bachelor of Arts and Social Work from Melbourne University and studied performance, improvisation and theatre making privately for several years with Bruce Alexander. Since moving to Barwon Heads in 2001 she has performed Dario Fo’s Difficult Women, acted in and voiced numerous educational resources for Deakin University and Cengage Learning Australia, created and performed children’s theatre for local festivals and events. Elise devised and performed her own solo work as part of Blinks award winning show Soft Landing and performed in recent short film Memory House, as well as producing and facilitating numerous events for the company. Elise works part time as a Social Worker for Barwon Health.
