JESSE DACOSTA
LAB, 2021
“My name is Jesse daCosta and I’m a visual and multidisciplinary artist based in Naarm/Melbourne. I create art using a variety of mediums, primarily using ink and graphite to create crosshatched, stippled, and fine line drawings. I also write personal essays and poetry and express myself via public speaking. The best expression I’ve found to capture my personal motivation for making my art is ‘greater than the sum of its parts.’ I create art as a means of expressing my individuality, which is the experiences/influences informed by many my different identities as black, queer and a ‘third culture kid’. My creative output is the synergy of said identities, yet the intention is to ultimately validate and create a space for the multifacetedness within my communities.”
