Where moment and colour become memory.

Crossings in Colour invites members of the community to co-create a large-scale movement-based painting on a canvas laid across the courtyard floor. Participants take off their shoes, dip their feet in bright, non-toxic fabric paint, and step onto the canvas. As they walk, dance and swirl to Holi-inspired music, they generate a collective artwork through colour and motion.

It’s playful, physical and family-friendly, and deeply connected to themes of cultural movement and shared community experience. The final canvas becomes a vibrant record of all the crossings made together: a bridge built not of steel, but of footsteps, colour and joy.

  • Anindita Banerjee or Dr. Anindita Banerjee where appropriate. She/her

Anindita Banerjee, a twice-uprooted Indian, is an interdisciplinary artist, researcher, curator, and arts manager. She lives and works in Ballarat, on the lands of the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation. Using gestural portrayals of hybrid rituals, she wonders where her place is as an immigrant to the unceded indigenous lands of present-day Australia. Her research interest includes cultural otherness, authentic identity, and the sense of home. She has exhibited her works, curated exhibitions and managed complex art projects nationally and internationally. In 2025, Anindita was awarded the Award of Excellence in the Arts by the Governor of Victoria. She currently manages the Public Art Collection for the City of Ballarat.
