As part of the Platform LAB Digital Residency, Lauren Dunn is researching and developing their project titled A Cyborg Manifesto, in honour of Donna Haraway’s essay of the same name.

This essay lubricated new ways of thinking and alternative theories for Lauren about our relationship to technology and its impact on feminism, socialism and materialism. The research specifcally aims to interrogate theories of the cyborg in contemporary culture by bridging connections to popular imagery, cultural behaviours and the forces that dictate our desires.

Predominantly working with photography Lauren also uses other materials such as video and sculpture as a means of twisting the codes and conventions of photography. Lauren’s work is concerned with our fast-paced relationship to the many images we encounter in our daily journeys in the virtual and physicalworlds. She believes images have the power to infuence, persuade, seduce and mislead us more than ever due to technological advancements and our growing dependancy on the virtual world.

Lauren works to unpack and decode these images to make sense of our culture and the power structures that shape our desires. The end result is a social commentary and provocations that addresses critical contemporary image politics through the lens of popular culture.
