When in ROAM…
On Saturday, October 11th, Geelong’s cultural precinct transforms into a walkable day and night playground of art, theatre, light, and sound.
ROAM Geelong uncovers the voices, histories, and hidden stories that shape the city, celebrating the people, places and culture that make Geelong unique. All of this unfolds along one extraordinary street that defines the city’s incredible arts, culture, and entertainment precinct.
As an event partner, Platform Arts will open its doors for the festival’s hours, inviting audiences into a whirlwind of creativity.
GALLERY ONE
After Walter Hopps Opening Event
Gallery One will be taken over in a ‘come one, come all’ community art show inspired by the 36 Hours project by curator Walter Hopps, held in 1978 at the Museum of Temporary Art (MOTA) in Washington, USA.
The result is an exhilarating collision of mediums, ideas, and voices transforming the gallery into a living snapshot of Greater Geelong’s creative spirit. After Walter Hopps presents a unique opportunity to discover and purchase original, locally made artworks.
GALLERY TWO
Gathering Place
Join us in Gallery Two to explore Gathering Place, led by acclaimed artist and curator Dr Paola Balla. This project brings together local First Nations artists in a striking new installation for ROAM Geelong.
Over three bush-dyeing workshops, artists Tammy Gilson, Thaedra Frangos, Nikki Whitfield, Jess McDonald and Tracey Pocock have shared stories of Country, culture, and lived experience, translating them into richly textured bush dyed fabrics.
These collaborative works will come together as a large shelter-like structure inside Gallery Two at Platform Arts, offering people a place to gather, reflect, and immerse themselves in the voices and visions of First Nations creatives from Greater Geelong.
ROAM Geelong is proudly presented by the City of Greater Geelong and supported by the Victorian Government through Visit Victoria and the Regional Events fund.
