An exhibition showcasing artists working with and through nature.
Sympoiesis, meaning ‘making-with’ or ‘making together,’ encapsulates a worldview in which both human and non-human existence are inherently collaborative, contextual, and emergent. In this framework, nothing exists in isolation, and everything is in a constant state of interdependent becoming. Rooted in this concept is a recognition that all things—whether living, material, or conceptual—are deeply interconnected and mutually shaping.
This exhibition is inspired by sympoiesis as a means to explore the growing intersection of sustainability, empathy, and art. The works presented here reflect a commitment to relational practices, where artists engage not just with one another but with the natural world, its processes, and its materials. By acknowledging the interconnectedness of all things, these artists seek to challenge traditional notions of authorship and creative ownership, emphasising collective action over individual production.
Co-curated by Lucy Allinson and Amber Smith.
