Who are we beyond our online personas and the curated selves we present to the world?

SAT AUG 02—FRI SEP 26

MULTIPLE EVENTS

Un/scripted is a curation of arts experiences exploring contemporary identity and the mediated self—how we perform, edit, confess, and connect in digital spaces. In an age where authenticity is performed, the line between the genuine and the constructed becomes increasingly blurred.

Over August and September, this thematic brings to our region some incredible works designed to welcome reflection—a stirring of our existing collective questioning—on arguably the most pervasive industrial-cultural ‘habituation’ of our era. un/scripted questions how the digital realm shapes our narratives, from social media to reality TV. As physical interaction declines, what happens to spontaneity, messiness, and imperfection?

Through this unique series of events, Platform Arts invites the community to further reflect on the psychological and social costs of maintaining an online identity—asking what it means to be real in a world where everything is potentially a performance.

Sometimes you really can blame the edit…

For more than 5 years, artist Georgia Banks has rigorously delved into the world of Reality TV and AI—exploring ideas of death, fame and legacy—to fearlessly provoke viewers into critically engaging with the ineffable ways these mediums shape and influence our identities, relationships and the zeitgeist of our nation.
Villain Edit offers regional audiences the opportunity to see Banks’ remarkable works together for the first time, bringing together three key works spanning 2020 - 2023 (A Four Letter Word, Remains to be Seen, and DataBaes) into an ambitious and timely exhibition, accompanied by an eponymous publication, edited by Madé Spencer-Castle and featuring contributions by Daniel Mudie Cunningham, Ari Tampubolon, Diego Ramirez, and Anador Walsh.
