ABOUT DELAY 45

Delay 45 is a unique Australian jazz group led by award-winning trumpeter and composer Tom Avgenicos, featuring close collaborators Roshan Kumarage (piano), Dave Quinn (bass) and Ashley Stoneham (drums).

Delay 45 play songs and connect them together through improvisation. The result is a fluid exchange between structure and spontaneity, creating an immersive listening experience that traverses various moods, colours and textures. Delay 45’s sound is built upon a deep understanding of each other's playing that stretches back as far as high school. Their shared history is evident in the way the players seamlessly respond, building on one another’s musical cues and ideas. The group gained recognition among peers, critics and audiences for their debut release Big Ears, and will be releasing their second album, Flux, in early 2022.

Delay 45 will be presenting songs from Flux, sprinkled with Big Ears earworms.

"a bold new chapter in Australian jazz". – John Shand (Sydney Morning Herald)

“The four members of Delay 45 have developed an approach to performing that is creative and individual…” - Loud Mouth

ABOUT INTO LIGHT

“…one of the most restless creative people in Melbourne today. As a jazz-and-beyond bassist, she will blow your mind; as a composer and bandleader, she has created a sonic world of her own…” - Nikos Fotakis, australianjazz.net

Award-winning bassist and composer Claire Cross brings together some of Melbourne’s most exciting improvisers and chamber performers to present her latest project, Into Light. The project is a darkly-hued, immersive suite exploring the theme of hope, and the complexities of struggle. With swells of lush textures interwoven with improvisation and delicate melodies, Into Light is inspired by ambient-chamber ensemble works, with a subtle jazz sensibility.

The Into Light suite was commissioned in 2019 by the Melbourne International Jazz Festival with support from their Take Note program and premiered at the Festival in the same year.
