Rafiki

When his father dies, Gotche takes over his restaurant ‘Rafiki’. Azibo works there but his work visa has expired. When Gotche decides to convert the restaurant to a nightclub, Azibo’s future is on the line.

This joyful comedy incorporates original songs, Jamaican dance and projections to explore friendship, culture and resilience.

Ran

Ran is a short film about a young man’s struggle to find his way in a new country.

Inspired by his own experiences and the challenges facing his African brothers and sisters, local filmmaker Kiko Wayne Jr hopes to raise awareness through this film about the complexities behind the violence affecting the community.

“ I grew up around my grandfather who was a great storyteller, and he also inspired me to be a storyteller. I decided to tell my stories through the screen. My plan is to make more short films to raise the awareness of deaths, violence and other challenges that my people are facing.”

“It was great to collaborate on this short film with Benj Binks, who is a highly experienced filmmaker. I want to see more African filmmakers stand up and tell their stories on-screen.”
